The Position

This is an outstanding opportunity to be part of an exciting new zoo in the role of Zookeeper, primarily assigned to the Ungulates & Elephants department, utilising your skills in an area that you are genuinely passionate about.

The Zookeeper will be responsible for providing efficient and effective animal husbandry to ensure excellent animal welfare that enhances the visitor's experience with the species in our care. This position will commence as soon as possible.

Sydney Zoo is open every day of the year and this position will require the successful candidate to work some weekends and public holidays.

Skills, Knowledge, and Relevant Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ paid experience with Ungulate species and/or other large stock in an animal in human care environment or equivalent profession. 
  • Strong and proven background in Training/Conditioning using Operant Conditioning. 
  • Capability in designing and undertaking enrichment programs. 
  • Recognised full qualifications in captive animal management and/or zoology/biology or equivalent experience such as Cert III as a minimum. 
  • Ability to carry out daily keeping duties to a high standard ensuring all husbandry and welfare needs are met. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the demonstrated ability to work independently and positively contribute to a team environment. 
  • Driver’s license and the ability to drive a manual vehicle (desirable).
