Join our mission
The key role of a Koala Wildlife Officer is to support the head of department by assisting with the care of animals within the section you are working. This position reports directly to head of department, wildlife administrator and the curator.
Your role will include, but is not limited to, a variety of tasks such as:
- Maintaining industry leading husbandry standards through Lone pine’s animal exhibits and housing
- Maintaining a high level of customer service at all times in order to provide excellent guest experience and promote Lone Pine’s conservation messages.
- Ensuring that all customer service issues are directed to the relevant supervisor
- Ensure that industry leading standards of animal welfare are maintained and animals in our care are assured of the ‘The Five Domains’. (Nutrition, Environment, Physical health, and behaviour).
- Working well within a dynamic team of keepers and educators to ensure smooth operations and general keeping duties.
- Understand and comply with Lone Pine animal training procedures.
- Work within Lone Pine policies and procedures to ensure that we are meeting WHS, animal welfare standards and complying with all relevant legislation.
- Adhering to any instructions from the Heads of Section in relation to animals under their care.
- Maintaining a clean work environment (sanctuary) and reporting any damages to the relevant HOD
- Providing visitors with the highest quality AVI (animal visitor interaction), while always upholding our animal welfare standards.
- Conducting informative presentations
- Ensuring a safe environment for all visitors
In addition to all responsibilities outlined in the Wildlife Officer job description, you will also take on the key role of Leaf Collector, helping to maintain the Lone Pine koala population by supplying high quality, freshly harvested koala food leaf. This position reports directly to the Head of Plantations and the Head of Koalas.
Key Criteria:
- Minimum Certificate III in Captive Animals Management essential
- Valid Blue Card
- Open Manual Drivers Licence is a MUST
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role
- Flexibility to work on a roster that includes weekends, public holidays, and school holidays.
- Oral presentation skills and a strong desire and ability to engage with our guests.
- Proven experience providing high quality husbandry and care for animals.
Desirable Criteria:
- Previous experience working with Koalas.
- Ability to work in a highly physical role.
- Ability to deliver exceptional guest services
- Strong interest in wildlife and conservation
- Positive ‘can do’ attitude and willingness to learn.
- Able to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong time-management skills
- Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.
- Growth mindset and strong desire to further develop skills and knowledge.
- An ability and willingness to work within other wildlife teams from time to time.
- Chainsaw licence and a current First Aid Certificate would be highly desirable.
