Amanda has worked at Zoos Victoria for over 20 years. She’s based at Melbourne Zoo where initially she worked as Animal Records Officer. During her career with Zoos Victoria Amanda has developed skills and expertise in many facets of zoo operations through working with the Curatorial Unit, Projects and Planning Unit, Business Development Unit, Interpretation team and she is now part of the Life Sciences Unit.
Her current role is Strategic Coordinator Life Sciences and amongst other things she’s involved with development of policies and procedures for life sciences. These diverse roles all contribute to exhibitory and animal management, including provision of animal welfare and delivery of visitor experience. Her background is in zoology, and she also holds a Diploma in Education and Graduate Certificate in Interpretation. These formal qualifications bring discipline in project development, animal behaviour and visitor experience and interpretation. Amanda has been an active participant in the ASMP, having held the position of TAG Convener for Primates for many years. She also maintains several studbooks and Species Coordinator positions. She’s keen to work with the ASMP Committee with a view to contributing to sustainable populations of program species within the region.
