Full Institutional Membership
The following points outline eligibility for Full Institutional membership:
- Full members must participate in the Accreditation Program, undergoing assessment as per the Accreditation Policy
- A permanent facility maintaining captive wild animals

Open to the visiting public and have as their business
the exhibition, conservation, and preservation of wildlife in an
educational and scientific manner

Agree to subscribe to the Zoo and Aquarium Association codes, policies and guidelines
- Pay the fees as per the Membership Fee Policy
- New members are required to be Associate Institutional members for 12 months before full membership is available

Associate Institutional Membership
The following points outline eligibility for Associate Institutional membership:
- Applicants and all renewing members must be prepared to submit operational policies for assessment, in-line with the membership eligibility requirements (assessed every 3 years)
- Have animal collections or plan to have animal collections
- Agree to subscribe to the Zoo and Aquarium Association codes, policies and guidelines
- International Zoo and Aquarium Institutions must also be members of their relevant regional zoo and aquarium association
- Pay the fees as per the Membership Fee Policy
- New members are required to maintain Associate Institutional membership for 12 months before full membership is available for application
