Full Institutional members are part of a network of Zoo and Aquarium Association zoos and aquariums committed to supporting each other in their efforts to contribute to species conservation, education, research and to maintaining high standards in all aspects of zoo and aquarium operation. All the Association members agree to abide by common standards, and to operate within an agreed ethical framework.
Benefits of Full Institutional Membership
- Eligible for Board representation
- Voting rights
- Access to animal management support: Taxon Advisory Groups (TAG’s) and Australasian Species Management Program
- All employees of Full Institutional members have the same benefits and entitlements as Individual members, except voting rights, and includes access to Association resources and networking
- Access to a full suite of Association portfolios (e.g. PR, external affairs, conservation and research information and representation to governments)
- Institution profile included in hosting annual conferences, coverage on website, publications and press releases, participation in regional campaigns
- Ability to hold CITES 1 species under the EPBC Act through being part of a recognised species management program
- Staff exchanges, staff development and experience
- Management and staff networking
- Participation in the Accreditation Program (increasingly recognised by government departments)
- Involvement with the Zoo and Aquarium Association’s Specialist Advisory Groups (SAG’s)
- Access to a range of publications including the Zoo and Aquarium Association Newsletter
Eligibility for Membership
The following points outline eligibility for Full Institutional membership:
- Full members must participate in the Accreditation Program, undergoing assessment as per the Accreditation Policy
- A permanent facility maintaining captive wild animals
- Open to the visiting public and have as their business the exhibition, conservation, and preservation of wildlife in an educational and scientific manner
- Agree to subscribe to the Zoo and Aquarium Association codes, policies and guidelines
- Pay the fees as per the Membership Fee Policy
- New members are required to be Associate Institutional members for 12 months before full membership is available
