The Zoo and Aquarium Association Board of Management is made up of ten individuals, including a President and Vice President. They are all elected for a two-year term at the Annual General Meeting, except for three positions which are appointed representatives (ASMP representative, Qld. Branch representative and New Zealand Association representative). All standing Board members must be individual members of the Zoo and Aquarium Association, as well as employed by a Full Institutional Association member.

Board Portfolio: Wildlife Conservation Fund and Ethics Committee
Susan is the Chief Executive of Perth Zoo and has worked at Perth Zoo since 2000. She is a member of the Species Survival Commission’s Conservation Breeding Specialist Group and through her role of CEO of Perth Zoo is active in the World Association of Zoos and Aquaria.
Susan has a background in policy, planning and conservation strategy. She holds a Master of Arts from the University of Western Australia and an Honors degree from Murdoch University. She was awarded a graduate fellowship to the University of California (SC) in 1983-84 and was also a Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Women’s Studies at the University of Toronto in 1989. Susan is the author of two books on Western Australian history. Prior to entering zoos, Susan worked in the Western Australian Government in indigenous affairs and intergovernment relations.
The priority for Susan in her role on the Zoo and Aquarium Association Board is to strengthen and build partnerships across Australasian zoos and aquaria, particularly in conservation programs. Over the last year Susan has been working to enhance understanding and actions to respond to the global amphibian crisis. Susan is also committed to building Associations’s capacity in linking more effectively and coordinating our in-situ conservation efforts.

Sea World and Paradise
Mark Craig is currently Asst. Director Marine Sciences and Chief Curator of Village Roadshow Theme Parks, covering SeaWorld, Paradise Country and Australia Outback Spectacular. From March 2009 to May 2011 he was General Manager - Life Sciences and Exhibitory for the Sydney Attractions Group (Sydney Aquarium and Sydney Wildlife World ) responsible for all areas of animal operations and visitor experiences. He has extensive experience in all types of zoo / operational management and zoo business at an international level. He was the Director of the Al Ain Zoo and Wildlife Park in the United Arab Emirates from January 2006 until February 2009. During this period he undertook extensive improvements in all areas of operation and assisted in the design and operational readiness for the Al Ain Wildlife Park and Resort which links wildlife conservation, education and recreation with energy sustainable living.
He began his career in wildlife management in 1985 as a keeper in Adelaide Zoo, South Australia, and remained there until 2006, undertaking various roles including General Curator, Manager of Life Sciences, and Zoo Director. He also managed the 1000 hectare open range zoo at Monarto Zoological Park for a 10 month period.
He has and remains an active member of the Zoo Aquarium Association, being the Chair of the Australasian Species Management Program (ASMP) and ARAZPA Board member from 1996 to 2006 and was Vice President of ARAZPA from 2004 to 2006.
He believes that the modern zoo, aquarium and wildlife park can be a significant resource for wildlife education, conservation, research, entertainment and be managed as a financially sustainable business. |
Board Portfolio: ASMP Committee Chair
Amanda has worked at Zoos Victoria for over 20 years. She’s based at Melbourne Zoo where initially she worked as Animal Records Officer. During her career with Zoos Victoria Amanda has developed skills and expertise in many facets of zoo operations through working with the Curatorial Unit, Projects and Planning Unit, Business Development Unit, Interpretation team and she is now part of the Life Sciences Unit.
Her current role is Strategic Coordinator Life Sciences and amongst other things she’s involved with development of policies and procedures for life sciences. These diverse roles all contribute to exhibitory and animal management, including provision of animal welfare and delivery of visitor experience. Her background is in zoology, and she also holds a Diploma in Education and Graduate Certificate in Interpretation. These formal qualifications bring discipline in project development, animal behaviour and visitor experience and interpretation. Amanda has been an active participant in the ASMP, having held the position of TAG Convener for Primates for many years. She also maintains several studbooks and Species Coordinator positions. She’s keen to work with the ASMP Committee with a view to contributing to sustainable populations of program species within the region. |

While originally working in Agriculture and Veterinary R&D, Cameron has over 15 years experience in Marketing and Communications roles across a range of industries including Ag Vet, Consumer goods, health care, fundraising and tourism. Cameron has a Bachelor of Science with Honours and a Master of Commerce in Marketing and Organisational Behaviour.
Prior to his current role as Director and Chief Executive, Cameron previously held various General Manager positions at the Taronga group, responsible for life sciences, marketing, media relations, environmental education, fundraising and partner/stakeholder management. He is on the Board of the Zoo Aquarium Association, the International Rhino Foundation and a past President of the PKU Association of NSW.
Cameron is also a guest lecturer for the University of NSW and University of Technology in Marketing, Change Management, Communications and Tourism. Cameron is particularly passionate about inspiring Australians and tourists to appreciate and protect wildlife and their habitats. |

Trevor commenced at Sea World in 1973 and holds the position of Director of Marine Sciences. He is responsible for the collaborative design of exhibits, management of the animals and all related issues, is administrator of the Sea World Research and Rescue Foundation, heads up the Sea World rescue team in association with government agencies and is Master of the Sea World research vessel. |
Board Portfolio: Zoo and Aquarium Association Queensland Branch Representative
Al Mucci has been in the zoological industry for over 14 years and has held the position of General Manager of the Life Sciences department at Dreamworld for the past 5 years. Al has broad based experience with a wide variety of animals which has included senior positions in non-government organisations, private and public institutions. Al is President of the Executive Committee of the Zoo and Aquarium Association, Queensland branch (ZAAQ) and is Chair of the Legislative Standards Working Group. Al also holds the position of Accreditation Officer for the Association and represents the association and industry to enhance its position and perception within the broader community and raise the standards of zoological collections across Australasia.
Al value adds to Dreamworld’s Life Sciences animal collection by delivering world class animal exhibits and presentations in line with modern zoo principles.
